Meet Our Team Our centre is fortunate to have a passionate, highly qualified, and enthusiastic team of teachers and support personnel committed to providing Scholar Gateway an inspirational learning environment.

Dr Lam

He is a result focused and people oriented tutor. He has the knowledge in providing students with instructional support, homework assistance and exam preparation. He holds a Doctorate degree in Business Administration with extensive experience in I/GCSE, A-Level and IB business, economics, english and math.

Prior to his teaching career, he has led a wide array of business operations, formulating and implementing macro-level strategies, and directing multiple major developmental projects. He has seen considerable success in developing and growing both newly-founded start-ups and established MNCs alike across the domains of importing, trading, and manufacturing industries, with a history of operating in diverse, international, and multicultural environments.

He verily believes that it is important to understand the needs and requirements of the student. To know their ‘end-goal’ and to develop clear realistic objectives throughout their learning experience. Whichever age or level, it’s important to connect with students, to get them feeling relaxed and confident to rise to the challenge of learning, developing, and improving their learning.

Dr Cheung

Graduated from University of East London and Ph.D from Oxford Brooks University. Upon obtaining a doctorate degree, She did a post-doctorate training in USA in brain research. She then went to Malaysia and taught at Medical University as lecturer for 5 years. Upon invitation, she returned to Hong Kong and taught at University of Science and Technology for 10 years. She has written two books for Plant and Human Biology. She has plenty of experience in teaching GCSEs, A-level as well as IB Biology.

Dr Aleena

With a strong academic background and a passion for education, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her students. She began her academic journey with outstanding results at the GCSE O-Level, earning 1 A* and 7 As, followed by exceptional performance in the A-Level examinations, achieving 3 A*s in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Her academic excellence earned her the prestigious UN HeForShe IMPACT Champion Scholarship, a four-year award that enabled her to pursue a Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Hong Kong. Continuing her academic pursuits, she completed a PhD in Biomedical Sciences at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and is currently engaged in cutting-edge research as a postdoctoral researcher.

Over the years, she has accumulated extensive experience in tutoring science subjects, particularly Biology and Chemistry, across various international curricula including GCSE, IGCSE, WJEC, and the IB Diploma Programme. Her teaching journey began early, when she served as a Biology Teaching Assistant during her A-Levels, mentoring her peers and helping them grasp complex scientific concepts with clarity and confidence.

Her teaching philosophy is centered around interactive and student-focused learning. She believes in creating an engaging, supportive, and intellectually stimulating environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and expressing their thoughts. Her goal is not only to improve academic performance but also to cultivate critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and a genuine interest in science through real-life examples and structured practice to make lessons both enjoyable and effective, helping students build confidence, overcome challenges, and achieve their academic goals.

Mr Neil

After graduating from the University of Bath with a BSc in Materials Science, Mr Neil made a complete change of course and decided to pursue his love of teaching and combine it with his long held desire to move to Hong Kong! Mr Michael

He is incredibly passionate about tutoring and teaching mathematics. He has been

teaching for over fourteen years. He began teaching after completing a BSc in mathematics, where he was awarded the IMA prize in 2008 at Cardiff University for the highest scoring degree average of that year. He went on to study for a Post graduate qualification in teaching post 16 education, at the same University and has focussed on teaching iGCSE/GCSE/A-level mathematics and further mathematics ever since. Michael has also completed an MSc in mathematics and previously worked for a while as a PhD researcher; in computational mathematics and numerical analysis, although, the call back to teaching and tutoring has always been too strong to keep him away for long. Michael understands the value of grasping both pure and applied mathematics, and as such loves to help his students improve in all aspects of the course, whether that is pure mathematics, mechanics, statistics, or discrete mathematics.

Michael currently works at an independent school, one of the top performing schools in the UK and is experienced in working with dedicated students, from overseas, which make up over 90% of the intake in his current workplace. Michael has worked as an examiner for several different exam boards and is very adept at guiding students toward a greater understanding of the subject, while simultaneously improving their exam technique. Michael also has experience of working with students preparing for University Admissions tests and often spends his spare time working through TMUA & MAT questions for fun.

Mr Tim

After graduating with a BSc in Philosophy and Classical Literature, Tim spent the next 3 years teaching and working as the Director of Studies for the English programmes in South Korea and China (Shandong University). He then moved to Britain where he gained his PGCE in English and has been teaching there since 2010.

Tim currently works at one of the top ranked independent schools in the UK where last academic year the A*-A rate was 95%. In addition to teaching, Tim also examines for all four of the main boards in the UK, and has been examining and moderating for nearly 10 years.

More recently, he has started specialising in entrance exams for private schools in the UK, helping students to pass the 11+, 13+ and 16+ to ensure success in their academic futures.

Mr Connor

He recently graduated from Durham University with a masters in physics, focusing on theoretical and condensed matter and writing a dissertation based on phase transitions in the early universe and their implications on the structure of the modern universe.

He has experience in working with GCSE and A-level students, and follow a pragmatic approach as he learn the needs individual students and the ways they find it easiest to study.

In particular, he firmly believe it is often the case that a deeper understanding than is required is useful, as he will demonstrate techniques and ideas from higher levels where he think it aids a more rounded learning experience.

Mr Seth

Mr Seth is currently studying Medicine at the University of Oxford. He has previously been awarded a BA in Medical Sciences. He has many years of tutoring experience for GCSE, IGCSE, A Levels, and helped many students through UCAS, personal statements, applications, interviews, UKCAT, BMAT in gaining admission to top UK medical schools.

During his undergraduate studies, he had honour of being part of HKU Student Ambassador Scheme and representing HKU in multiple local and international schools both in and beyond Hong Kong as faces of HKU helping prospective students to navigate potential achievements and career paths.

Due to Eti’s exceptional grades in GCSE O’Level (7A*, 1A) and GCE A’Level (4A*: Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics), he was awarded 100% entrance scholarship of 146,000 HKDs per Annum for 4 years at HKU. Currently, Eti is also a Software Developer at one of the fortune 500 firms in Hong Kong. Eti has been teaching part-time topics related to Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics. He has taught students at University, IB, GCSE, IGCSE, and A’Level grade.

A note from Eti:

“While being a Software Engineer and I love my job, I cannot ignore how I was taught at school while growing up. Therefore, I have always felt that the teachers were never ‘absorbed’ into the teaching but rather just instructing in one-way manner instead of teaching in a discussion manner. I am here to make studies easier for students and to be ‘in’ the process of learning with them and teach the student rather than just instructing.

As a teacher, my prime responsibility is to develop student’s critical thinking skills so that they grow up into responsible adults who are ready to take on any challenge thrown at them by life. I believe mathematics, physics and programming are more than problem solving for getting good grades but rather it helps the student growing up to approach real life scenarios with a problem solving approach.“

Mr Sunny

Having graduated from Hong Kong University in 2020 with honours in Bachelor of Actuarial Science programme, Sunny is also an ex-member of the university team for rowing club.
